UofT’s Ginger Run Rescheduled Due to Sunny Skies, Perfect Weather

Noah Cazabon

Usually when someone is running in front of the Madison Avenue Pub, it’s to catch a late night Uber, to get away from a former lover, or because the four “Sour Keys” told you to do so. But on one day of the year, a horde will be running not in the shame of the night, but in broad daylight to celebrate everyone’s 2nd favourite holiday: UofT’s Ginger Run.

The Ginger Run run takes place at various Universities across Ontario, but this year marks the 2nd time the annual event will take place in Toronto. The original date of Sunday, March 16th had to be rescheduled to Saturday, March 15th at 3pm because of forecasted clear skies and an unforgiving UV index of 2. This year, the alabaster runners will compete at the intersection of Madison Ave and Lowther Ave for a highly sought-after 4-pack of Guinness.

“I couldn't in good conscience put society’s most vulnerable and precious at risk. Especially not on a day like today,” said event organizer Brian O’Conan. “Even with Banana Boat sponsoring the event and giving each Ginger a complimentary wide-brimmed fedora, it still wouldn’t have been enough. The risk is far too high.”

Notably, this is not the first time the Ginger Run had to be rescheduled. Last year the race had to be moved to an entirely different weekend due to a Soul Music festival taking place a few kilometers away.
